Support for the Containerization Framework on macOS #1263

Open

Description

Background:

Containerization Framework is a new way supported by Apple to run Linux containers on macOS. Apple also releases a command line tool similar to Docker.
See microsoft/vscode-remote-release#11012

It is rumored to have better or comparable performance than docker desktop or orbstack

Request

I would love to see similar support via the CLI!

    Hi!

Yep, I agree that would be nice to have support here, but in the meantime, I created a native Swift CLI that reads devcontainer.json and runs dev containers on Apple container.

You can start a dev container from a folder or clone a git repository into a volume. There's also an optional --vscode flag that will open your VSCode attached to the dev container on the correct workspace folder, install extensions, and apply settings automatically.

    Some examples:

    # from a folder
    adevcontainer up [--vscode]

    # from git repos
    adevcontainer clone <git-url> [--vscode]

I created this for myself, but you might want to check it out: https://github.com/wcgomes/apple-devcontainers.
