Turn typed Markdown list and code markers into formatting in the composer #271

Closed

Description

@iamnbutler

From the two-person study (#218, scenario 4) on Canary 0.0.27: both testers typed - one, * star, 3. three at line starts and wrapped text in backticks, expecting lists and inline code like other chat apps. The rich-text composer kept them literal; #247 escapes them on purpose, and the only input rule is ``````` for code blocks (codeBlockRule in packages/ui/src/components/rich-text/commands.ts). Lists and inline code are only available from the toolbar and shortcuts (Mod-Alt-8, Mod-E). Confusion 2/3 for both testers.

Expected: - , * or 1. at the start of an empty paragraph starts a list, and a closing backtick makes inline code, as in Slack or Notion. Pasted text keeps today's literal handling (#247).

Part of #5.

    Picked up by the overnight issue watcher (Claude Code session, outside Ace — this Mac's Canary is a study participant). A PR will link here.

    Typed - /* /+ /1. at a paragraph start now starts a list, a closing backtick makes inline code, and Shift+Enter in a list starts the next item. Backspace undoes a conversion, and pasted text stays literal as in #247. Done in #291.
