Team setup on the directory's own Mac says "You're the first on this tailnet" #604

Closed

Description

@iamnbutler

On the Mac that serves the team's directory, Team setup still says "You're the first on this tailnet" and offers to "Ask to join" a teammate's team.

What was seen

B's Settings → Team said "Served by this Mac at http://100.119.196.79:4142/directory", and A had joined it. B's sidebar "Team setup" dialog showed "Get your team started — You're the first on this tailnet. Pick where the team's channels are listed." It also said "iamnbutler on natembp is in a team. [Ask to join]". B: "That contradiction surprised me."

Steps

  1. Create a directory on This Mac (Settings → Team → Create directory → This Mac).
  2. Let a teammate join it.
  3. Open Team setup from the sidebar.

Expected: Team setup knows this Mac serves the directory. It shows that, plus who has joined, and doesn't offer to join a teammate who is on this Mac's own directory. Code: apps/app/src/team-setup.tsx (fork step and Nearby).

Map: ^120. Part of #550.

Found in the 2026-10-22 two-Mac pair study.

    Still on Canary 0.0.53.88 (2026-10-22 pair missions): the serving Mac's Team setup says "You're the first on this tailnet…" and offers Ask to join the teammate who joined it. The reverse also shows: the joined Mac's Team setup row still offers "Ask a teammate's host to let you in" after it has joined. Map: ^111, ^120.
