Stopping the directory deletes project shares silently, and lost access shows as Offline #631
Stopping the team directory deletes every project share without saying which, and the people who lose access see the owner's Mac as "Offline".
Where
Settings → Team → Stop serving… on the Mac that serves the directory; the teammate's sidebar and project picker.
What was seen
The confirmation says only "Stop serving the directory? Teammates stop seeing channels on offline Macs, and its shares are deleted." It doesn't name the shares. b-sandbox went from "iamnbutler shared with them" to "iamnbutler no access".
Recreating the directory at the same URL didn't bring the share back ("iamnbutler no access"); the lead had to share it again.
On the teammate's Mac, while the owner was still online, b-sandbox read "samechocolixir · Offline" / "Offline: nate16-1 is unreachable", then disappeared. Lost access looked like the host being offline. Leaving the directory has the same effect: a teammate's shared folder project vanishes from the picker with no message.
Expected: the confirmation names the shares it deletes; teammates who lose access see that the project is no longer shared with them, not that the Mac is offline.
Two-Mac re-check on Canary 0.0.54.93 (includes #642): the confirmation now names the shares (Sam opened it and cancelled): "Stop serving the directory? Teammates stop seeing channels on offline Macs, and these shares are deleted, ending the access they give: b-sandbox with iamnbutler@gmail.com." Not re-checked: lost access still showing as Offline (^104), since the directory wasn't actually stopped.
Two-Mac re-check V3 on Canary 0.0.54.96 (beb17a0, includes #682):
Fixed: lost access no longer reads as Offline. Sam unshared b-sandbox from iamnbutler in the app. On Nate's Mac (Sam Online) the b-sandbox · nate16-1 · samechocolixir section and b-chan left the sidebar with no Offline mark, and stayed gone after a reload. Sam's other sections and People stayed normal. Separately, with Sam's helper stopped, every section read · Offline and came back without a reload, so Offline now means the host.
Still open: nothing tells the person who lost access why. There was no toast, banner or tombstone, nothing in People or Settings → Team, and no route to b-chan's history. A deliberate unshare looks the same as a silent failure. Leaving the directory still drops a teammate's shared folder project at once, and neither the leave confirmation ("Teammates stop seeing this host's channels while it's offline.") nor the sidebar card says so.
On the sharer's side, Unshare is one click with no confirmation. On a folder project the dialog's "People who can read it on GitHub always have access" left Sam unsure whether No access held.
